The Truth

2017, WHAT A YEAR!

Last year, I ended with a blog about the number of police officers murdered in the United States. Unfortunately, the assaults against police continue.

I gave it a ton of thought to what I felt was necessary to end 2017. I have to be honest with you, that I was stuck on what to write about. Everyone that reads this, I consider too be very smart people. I respect each one of you, for who you are are what you contribute to life. As a human being, I believe we should never stop learning. Learning new things, whether they be about … [read more]

I Never Thought I’d Say This: Who Needs Assault Rifles?

Unless you were hiding under a rock, on Sunday, October 1st, a nightmare unfolded in Las Vegas.

As many of you know, I was a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, where I spent 25 years serving a city, that was a living oxymoron-Beautifully Dangerous. I am a strong believer in the 2nd amendment of the Constitution, BUT there is something I don’t believe should be open for debate. Any type of assault rifle and the accessories that are available to convert to full-auto, should be banned from ownership by all citizens. If you can’t defend your home or your … [read more]

FATHER’S DAY

I hope this finds everyone doing well. Summer is upon us. Be safe in your travels and adventures.

Did you know, Father’s Day wasn’t celebrated in the United States, outside Catholic traditions until the 20th Century. The first observance of a “Father’s Day” was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia at Williams Methodist Episcopal Church, now known as Central United Methodist.  It was a recognized local tradition across the nation until 1966.

In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as “Father’s Day”. Father’s Day is well recognized … [read more]

MEMORIAL DAY

I hope this finds, everyone doing well.

I was recently grabbing a cup of coffee at my favorite coffee place, when I met a group of bright, students, in their sophomore year of college. We got on the subject of holidays and Memorial Day came up in the discussion. I asked them if they knew the true meaning of “Memorial Day” and I got several different answers to include a day to remember all of those in our lives that passed away, and something to do with the military. They were partially right, but that’s OK, we learn something new everyday.

Other … [read more]

OFFICER NEEDS HELP, SHOTS FIRED! PART 2

I hope this finds everyone doing well.

Confrontation:

The officers responding to the call are about to stop an individual that has been identified as the possible shooter. Officers have interviewed the victim, who has given a name, and supporting information such as the suspect’s address and physical address. Based upon the information  the officers will stop the individual and place him under arrest.

As the officers cautiously approach, they have concerns and the primary are the civilians in close proximity. Officers have at their disposal equipment known as less than lethal, which can include; Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray, taser and bean bag … [read more]

OFFICER NEEDS HELP, SHOTS FIRED! Part 1

I hope this finds everyone doing well. I pray that 2017 is a safe, healthy and prosperous year for everyone reading this.

You are probably wondering, why would I post something with the words, “OFFICER NEEDS HELP, SHOTS FIRED!” as the tag line. When an officer responds to a call, and is under attack, where the suspect or suspects are using firearms and or other type of deadly weapon and the officer or officers responding need help to stop the threat, that is the call that goes out.  Not every time, when an officer is confronted with an armed suspect, do … [read more]

I want to begin by wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I pray 2017 is a prosperous, healthy and safe year for each and everyone that is reading this.

As you may know by now, I’m a retired detective from the Los Angeles Police Department. I spent 25 years in law enforcement, working with the best cops in the world.  When I say, the best, I’m not exaggerating. Men and women that worked those mean streets, risking their lives to keep the public safe. After you retire, you have time to reflect on those you worked with and I want to … [read more]

HOLIDAY SPIRIT AND MORE…

I’d like to begin, by wishing everyone, a Happy Holiday Season.  I hope you have an opportunity to slow things down a little, spend precious and valuable time with family and friends. Take this time, to recharge your batteries, for the coming New Year. I know that can be hard, but allow yourself that opportunity. I promise you, if you do that, life’s challenges will be easier to deal with.

During the Holiday Season, my family and I entertain friends in our home. The talk is electric, our friends are happy, healthy and excited about life. I stand back and watch … [read more]

HUMMINGBIRD-SYMBOL OF FREEDOM… And More

I know many of you already know this and I’m preaching to the choir, but we live in a great country that provides each and every citizen with many, many freedoms.

When Americans talk about freedoms, there are a plethora of symbolism representing them.  Two that come to mind are the Statue of Liberty and the White House.

There is one symbolism that sticks out  to me, and that  is the hummingbird. What a more visible representation of spiritual essence, beauty and fearlessness.  There are times when you have to make a difficult decision or taking a path to achieve a goal. … [read more]
